A lot of small business owners are behind the times and do not have a website for their business. Maybe they think that people are still using phone books, whatever the cause they are most definitely losing business and money by not having one.

Most small business owners do not operate a website because they have nothing to sell online. What they don’t realize is that people look for a website regardless if they can buy something from the store online. Customers in today’s business world want information and they turn to the internet to find it. Simply having a website with some basic information like a page with FAQ’s is better then having nothing at all.

A website is never offline as long as you pay the domain dues. The information for a business is out there on the world wide web for everybody to see, 24/7, 365 days out of the year. A business without a website is also missing out of an easy way to market their business. Having customers provide their email address is a way a lot of businesses market their business. They will send out emails with monthly specials or coupons. This in turn may provide word of mouth marketing opportunities. The possibilities are endless but they only begin with a website.

Not any old website will do however. A bad website is worse then not having one at all. A bad website makes an immediate first impression and usually results in a customer clicking away from your business in record time. A company should only have a website if it is professional looking.

Whether it is for marketing purposes or just the simple fact that it’s 2010 and all businesses should have one, a website is crucial for small business owners. Without one, they are losing out and will continue to lose out to similar businesses that care about their customers and provide a website for them.
